Every November we’re inspired to make a statement through our art. This year will be no different. We’re planning to collaborate with Juneau ReSisters to create protest signs — we’re feeling really inspired by the book Signs of Resistance by Bonnie Siegler. ReSisters are working on creating inspired language for signs and Persisters will be encouraged to select text and create a sign using the text.
We’re excited to see the variety of signs created by Persisters artists, with a variety of media and styles represented. We’ll post a full call for art in the near future, but for now, save the date.
We’ll end up recommending a standard poster size (11×17 or 18×24) and something that is flat enough to scan. We’ve also been inspired by the artistic posters folks have made available online to print off for protests and rallies, like the iconic Shepard Fairey images. Think of it as an Alaska version of the work of The Amplifier Foundation. We’ll encourage our artists to make the original and/or art prints available for sale.
We’ll post the artist application here.
If you’re interested in submitting language for signs, you can submit here.
